Both add strength and length, but they're made and worn very differently. Here's the plain-English comparison.
Gel is a flexible product cured under a lamp for a glossy, natural-feeling finish. It's lighter and more flexible than acrylic, and kinder to your natural nail.
Acrylic is a harder, thicker product made by mixing a liquid and powder. It's very strong and good for dramatic length, but firmer and thicker on the nail.
Gel looks more natural and feels lighter; acrylic feels sturdier and can be built longer. Gel tends to win on a subtle, glossy "clean girl" finish.
Both last if cared for. Gel is gentler on the natural nail when removed properly; acrylic is tougher but needs careful removal to avoid damage. Never peel either one off.
